AI Heavyweight Geoffrey Hinton Leaves Google Amid Rapid Developments
Dr Geoffrey Hinton, 75, resigned from Google on Monday to speak about the dangers of AI. One month after the open letter to pause development on powerful AI for six months, Hinton expresses fear that AI will transform our society in ways we are not ready for. That’s right, the very giants responsible for so much innovation and progress in the AI world are explicitly warning against the development of these systems. “Google has acted very responsibly”, he said in a tweet. This is about AI in general. This is about the ChatGPT wave. This is about Microsoft, Google, Amazon, IBM, Baidu and Tencent working on these AI technologies. It’s an arms race; to create the very thing that will end us all.
